Tips for maximising efficiency and savings

  • Using your systems efficiently: Smart heating strategies can save energy and money. A good heater in the room(s) you use will improve health and comfort.
  • Proper insulation: Ensure your home is well-insulated to prevent heat loss, reducing the workload on your heat pump. Good-quality curtains with thermal backing and double glazing are also great for keeping heat in.
  • Timers and thermostats: Use a timer to pre-warm your rooms and turn off when not needed. Set your thermostat to 20-21°C for optimal efficiency and comfort.
  • Regular maintenance: To maintain efficiency, clean filters regularly. Use a vacuum cleaner and warm water to clean the filters every few weeks, and schedule professional servicing – Eastside Refrigeration can help with that!
  • Hold onto your heat: Shut doors, curtains, and block drafts to prevent heat loss. This helps your heat pump work more efficiently and reduces those winter power bills.
  • Master your heat pump settings: In winter, use the ‘heating mode’ rather than ‘auto mode’ to save energy.
  • Use dehumidifying mode: This setting uses less energy while keeping your home warm, reducing moisture and condensation, and making your home easier to heat. It’s also a good idea to avoid drying your clothes inside. Plus, remember to switch on your bathroom extractor when showering and your kitchen extractor when—you got it—cooking!
  • Keep your heat pump running during sleeping hours: You and your family will most likely feel the cold during these hours. Keeping your heat pump running while you are sleeping will keep you comfortable and help maintain a consistent temperature at the coldest times of the night. It can also help with condensation on windows and window frames.
